08/02/2023: My Humble Beginnings

It finally feels like things are back to normal again after being so busy for so long. Last week was the perfect week back to our routine lives. It was well balanced with obligations, healthier food, fitness, fun down time and special time together. I think if every week was like that then I could be happy with that.

I’ve also had a pretty good time writing lately. I’ve been working on a new story for the last couple of weeks, and this week I finally finished and finalized (for the last time) two short story reworks. I’m feeling like I’ve got a good dose of momentum as I refine old work, write new stories, and look forward to getting a blog up and running. I’ve been avoiding the blog idea lately, mainly afraid of messing up my attributions to the people who helped reignite my passion for writing in the first place. But as of yesterday I have the confirmation I’ve been too afraid to get up until now. Now I can finally let myself get excited about my public future as a writer. I’m still nervous about what that entails, but I’m also looking forward to the journey from here.

I can only get better by writing a ton, sharing my work, and writing some more. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I need to do to get where I’m going. But when I look at where I was just five and a half months ago, I’m happy to say that I’ve had a tremendous start on this new journey of mine. I can only imagine where I’ll be once I hit the one year mark. I know I’ve contemplated this before, but I can’t help but think of it again today as I think about my next goals that I’m setting and hope to achieve.

I think I’ve settled into my day to day pretty well, and I’m just trying to remember to enjoy the journey. When I look back one day I’ll wish that I was more forgiving and more in the moment, and I’ll miss my humble beginnings. So I’ll try every day to be mindful and grateful.

I’ve got so many things competing for my attention right now in the hobbyist and creative sense. There are other avenues I’ve rediscovered recently that I could use to learn how to write and tell stories, and these avenues just happen to be centered around hobbies I enjoy (D&D). I was even inspired to do art last week with a vigor I thought I lost. It was nice to know that I still have it in me. It was never something I wanted to hang up for good; I just needed some distance and perspective on it so that I could remember the reasons I enjoy it.

In short, it’s been an amazing past week and I hope this week comes to an end on an equally satisfying note. I look forward to finishing the week, seeing friends, getting our home finished and back in order, and enjoying the special moments and down time that we get in between.
