12/06/2023: Make the World Better Again 2023
Our trip was successful. We’ve found a home in our new home: Colorado. Everything was as incredible as I was led to believe, and now we can look forward to starting our new life chapter very soon. There was so much to see and do there, and it’s such a friendly city and active community. I joked to a lot of people while I was there that they do Southern Hospitality better than we do. And after our trip I’m one hundred percent sure that it’s true.
People do so much together, get outside, have parties and events that bring people together. It’s amazing how this type of lifestyle is promoted. I’m only sad that there are less fortunate people everywhere, and the problem is quite prominent there. But it seems to me that people are a little more empathetic to that. We saw a small business owner give a homeless man breakfast, and a coffee shop barista gave another man water when he came in and kindly asked for it. And then these poor people with no place to go bundle up and huddle under blankets in the freezing cold streets.
It makes me feel like I want to do more, and be more. My heart swells when I think about it. I want to help, and I wish the world would show a little more compassion and do more for the sake of those who have it a lot worse. I know if the situations and circumstances were reversed, people would want others to be compassionate for their sake. Is it so hard to be human? To show love and understanding?
Thinking of the state of the world makes me think of something I’ve heard, something I’ve mentioned recently but can’t get out of my head. We have to better our world, and by that I mean that we have to improve our small chunk of the world - our surrounding world that we directly influence - in the ways we can actually make an impact. We have to touch the people we can reach, and we have to show love and support for the things that align with who we are.
All of this to say, we can’t change the whole entire world alone. But what we can do as a society, as a whole, is to make our world a better place. If everyone would do this, then little by little I believe the state of the world would change for the better. But right now it isn’t possible, because people are so obsessed with being great at everything and seeking gratification for it that they lose themselves completely and don’t remember what they stood for to begin with.
If the world can wake up from this self-indulgent funk it’s in, then maybe we can start the conversation of making the world better again, for everyone that inhabits this planet.
